Radiance Wellness MediSpa prides itself on offering the latest laser technologies to help residents of Southlake and Granbury, Texas, tackle various cosmetic concerns, from aging skin to wrinkle removal. Tucked in there is a state-of-the-art laser system that gets rid of unwanted body hair.

The laser difference

Although laser technology has been around for the past couple of decades, recent refinements in the technology allow us to precisely target small areas with virtually no collateral damage to the surrounding tissue.

Hair removal is one such example where this new technology performs at its best. If you consider the size of a hair follicle, you can begin to appreciate the precision of laser technology.

With the laser, one of our team members uses a specialized device that delivers light energy into each of the hair follicles in your target area. The pigment in your follicle absorbs the energy as heat and is destroyed in the process. With the follicle out of commission, your body takes over, sheds the hair, and flushes out the follicle through your lymphatic system.

Plan ahead

If you’d like to get your legs silky smooth by swimsuit season, you need to start your laser hair removal treatments soon. Depending upon the thickness and coverage of your leg hair, you should count on having anywhere from five to six appointments. We design an individualized plan during your initial consultation so you know what to expect.

As a point of reference, when you’re born, you have over five million hair follicles on your body, a number that steadily decreases as you age, Still, this means that when we’re targeting follicles in your legs, we aren’t talking about just a few dozen.

Since you’ll need several treatments, your timeline to smooth legs should include the six weeks we need to wait in between appointments. The reason for this is that not all of your hair follicles are active at once. By spacing your treatments out, we can catch new hair as it grows in to make sure we’ve covered the entire area.

Pre- and post-treatment tips

If you’ve decided you’d like to try laser hair removal with us at Radiance Wellness MediSpa, we ask that you don’t wax your legs for several weeks beforehand. Waxing is designed to remove hair from down in the follicle, and if your legs are waxed, your follicles won’t be readily visible. You can, however, shave your legs since that only breaks the shaft of the hair and doesn’t affect your follicles.

We also ask that you stay out of the sun before, during, and after your treatments. In order to increase our accuracy and coverage, we need to easily spot your hair follicles. If you tan your legs, you’ll make finding them a little more difficult.

During and after your laser hair removal treatments with us, we recommend that you take care of your legs and protect them from the sun by either covering up or using sunscreen. Your skin will be sensitive and especially vulnerable to harmful ultraviolet rays after we remove your hair, so exercise caution when you slip on your swimsuit to show off your silky smooth legs.
