Tired of looking tired all the time, even though you’ve had a perfectly good night’s sleep? When your face looks older than you feel, consider dermal fillers to combat the natural aging effects of depleted collagen and hyaluronic acid. Carrie L. Morris, MD, FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons) at Radiance Wellness MediSpa in Southlake, Arlington, and Granbury, Texas, uses injectable fillers to soften your facial lines and plump up your skin for a more youthful appearance.
As we age, our skin begins to lose volume. Fortunately, dermal fillers can help reverse these effects after just one treatment. This minimally invasive procedure helps smooth lines and plump up lips and cheeks, subtly erasing visible signs of aging, giving you a younger, fresher look.
Where can we apply dermal fillers?
Dr. Morris can inject dermal fillers throughout your face. Specific areas include the lips, cheekbones, under-eye circles, those vertical lines (nasolabial folds) between the nose and corners of the lips, lips, and other problem areas.
She can provide fillers to plump up thin lips and give cheekbones an instant lift and fullness. She can also lessen the hollow look under your eyes. Fillers lift and plump up this delicate area beneath your eyes, reducing discoloration.
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances. Each filler works best for certain features. Depending on the brand, they are made up of particular ingredients.
Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your body is found in many anti-wrinkle creams, keeps skin hydrated and plump. These naturally-occurring substances are ideal for first-time users, since they are easily absorbed by your body.
What happens during treatment?
You’ll first meet with Dr. Morris to discuss your desires and medical history. Once she decides you’re a good candidate, she’ll book your appointment. Soon, you’ll return to the office to begin your brief 30-minute treatment.
She begins by applying a topical anesthetic to minimize any discomfort. She’ll then inject the filler to your problem areas just beneath the skin. Radiance Wellness MediSpa uses an extensive array of fillers, including such well-known brands as:
- Juvederm® Ultra and Ultra Plus
- Vollure
- Volbella
- Voluma®
- Restylane®
- Restylane Lyft®
Are there any side effects?
Fortunately, this is a minimally invasive procedure, so you’ll experience few or no side effects. At most, you may encounter mild swelling, redness, bruising, or irritation.
To minimize bruising, you want to avoid aspirin, NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory) at least 5 days prior. We also recommend taking oral bromelain and arnica to help lessen swelling and bruising.
You may return to work or resume normal activities immediately after treatment. Wait a day or so before jogging, swimming, or working out. Apply ice and topical Arnica gel or cream for 24 -36 hours to help swelling and bruising. Makeup may be applied immediately after treatment.
What’s next?
While dermal fillers improve your look almost immediately, their effects are only temporary. They will typically last from 6-24 months, depending on the filler used and injection site. Dr. Morris can perform periodic maintenance injections to retain your desired results.
